The Student Council elections in Panjab University (PU) and its affiliated colleges concluded on Wednesday with high voter turnout, energetic campaigning, and a renewed sense of democratic participation. From fiery campus rallies to strategic alliance-building, this year’s elections not only reflected a vibrant student political culture but also marked the rise of new leaders and the consolidation of influential student blocs. The results signal shifting dynamics in student representation, with independent voices and coalition-backed candidates sharing the spotlight.

At key institutions including University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College (GGDSD), Mehr Chand Mahajan Dayanand Anglo Vedic College for Women (MCM-DAV), and various government colleges, student alliances such as KCSU-GGSU, HSA-HPSU-ABVP, SOI-INSO-SOPU-HIMSU, and SOPU-NSUI clinched decisive victories.

Independent candidates like Nipun Suri made strong solo showings, indicating that campus politics is becoming more diverse and competitive. Here’s a list of these parties performed in key colleges

UILS, Panjab University

Nipun Suri (Independent), Maitreyee, Sidharth, and Harnoor were elected as Department Representatives.

SGGS-26

The KCSU + GGSU alliance secured its third consecutive win. The elected panel includes: President: Sarabjeet; Vice President: Rohit; General Secretary: Zahid; and Joint Secretary: Tanishpreet.

At Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, the HSA-HPSU-ABVP alliance won all major positions — President: Sachin Singh, Vice President: Harbhajan Lal, Secretary: Priyansh Thakur, and Joint Secretary: Rohan.

DAV-MCM college, Sector 36

Aprajita Balo (BA final year) was elected as president, with Aarushi Bakshi, Ojasvita Kaur, and Anvee Thakur elected as vice-president, secretary, and joint secretary, respectively. Acting Principal Neena Sharma congratulated the winners and highlighted the election as a celebration of democracy and student leadership.

PGGCG-11

At Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, the Guru Gobind Singh Students’ Union (GGSU) secured a decisive victory: President: Mehakdeep, Vice President: Radhika Sharma, General Secretary: Maliha Sharma, and Joint Secretary: Simran.

DAV college, Sector 10

At DAV College, Sector 10, polling results saw a successful mixed panel from the SOI-INSO-SOPU-HIMSU alliance: President: Harmehak Singh; Vice President: Aaryan Rana (HSA); General Secretary: Anmol Randhawa; and Joint Secretary: Gurshaan Singh Chadha.

At Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, the SOPU-NSUI alliance secured the following positions: President: Pankaj, Vice President: Ravinder Singh, Secretary: Sneha, and Joint Secretary: Anjali.

GCCBA, Sector-50

At Government College of Commerce and Business Administration (GCCBA), Sector 50; a total of 28 nominations were received, with several candidates elected unopposed. Harshdeep Singh (BCA 5th Semester) was elected vice president, while Bhavneet Kaur (BBA-I Section A) was declared class representative.

GGDSD College, Sector 32

At GGDSD College, Sector 32, Rizwal Singh (MA Economics) won the president’s seat with 1,604 votes. The vice president’s post went to Yuvraj Singh (BVoc MLT) with 1,514 votes. Anshul Thakur (BA Sem 5) won as secretary with 1,352 votes, and Nyashi Thakur (BA Sem 1) secured the Joint Secretary post with 1,571 votes.
