Even as the UT Estate Office is yet to finish with the infamous Booth Allotment scam in Krishna Market,Sector 41,yet another scam,in the making, has been unearthed. This possible scam is occurring in Sector 38 wool market and has come under the Estate Office scanner.
As per sources, the wool market which was originally located in Sector 38 on government land was relocated to Sector 40 about five years back. Many shopkeepers shifted to the new booths in Sector 40,but encroachments continued in Sector 38.
Sources say that most of the encroachers have manage to continue running their business from Sector 38 due to alleged connivance with certain employees of the UT Estate Office.
The matter came to light and very recently, the Rehri Branch of the UT Estate Office was asked to take a deeper look.
Officials say that there are over 30 shopkeepers who are running their businesses from the old encroached site.
Preliminary inquiry into the matter also revealed that many of these encroachers are those who have already been allotted booths in Sector 40 in lieu of their encroached site.
Speaking to Chandigarh Newsline, the UT Estate Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shayin said,We got a tip-off in this matter and we are inquiring into it.
Significantly, the booth allotment scam which hasbeen already inquired into twice,is yet to be taken to its logical conclusion as after many rounds of inquiring, recording statements of the complainants and officials, the UT administration which had in principle agreed to cancel the allotment of eight booths is yet to move further in the matter.
