Mixed day for Chandigarh cagers
CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh cagers had a mixed day in the 39th Sub-Junior boys and girls National basketball championship being held at Agnel Ashram Complex,Verna in Goa. While the Chandigarh boys lost tamely to Orissa,the city girls registered a victory and a loss,in their campaign. The Chandigarh boys failed to get going past Orissa and lost 44-20. The Chandigarh eves started the day with a bang and humbled Rajasthan 23-8,but they failed to make it two wins out of two when they lost to Haryana 21-53. Meanwhile,Haryana boys kept their nerves to edge past a fighting Mizoram 48-47,and Rajasthan met stiff resistance before they pulled off a hard-fought 55-50 win over Punjab.

Golf camp from May 19
Chandigarh: A seven-day summer golf camp will be organised by the Forest Hill Golf and Country Club from May 19 to 25 for children,women and men of all ages. This camp will be conducted from 9am to 10am on May 19 and 20 and from 4pm to 5pm between May 21 to 25. The participants will get to learn the grip,aim,alignment,stance,posture,hitting,chipping,putting,safety,etiquette and rules of golf. Prizes worth Rs 1,000 will be given to the participants in a fun competition which will be conducted on the last day. Golf equipment will be provided to all. Sukhjit,Manpreet shine
CHANDIGARH: Sukhjit (43) and Manpreet (35) played useful knocks as Amritsar XI beat APJ Kharar XI by five wickets in a lop-sided match of the 5th DD Sharma Memorial Under-16 cricket tournament played at Barwala on Wednesday. APJ won the toss and elected to bat first. Yuvraj played a superb knock of 35 off 67 deliveries to propel APJ to 117 in 29 overs. Gourav Bedi chipped in with useful knock of 31 off 43 balls. Rohit took three wickets for Amritsar. In reply,Amritsar achieved the target for the loss of five wickets in 27 overs.
Dodgeball tourney on May 14,15
Chandigarh: Dodgeball Association of Chandigarh will organise the Chandigarh State Dodgeball Championship for under-19 and under-14 for boys and girls at DAV Senior Secondary School,Sector 8,Chandigarh,from May 14 to 15. Players born on or after January 1,1993 for under-19 category and January 1,1998 for under-14 category are eligible to participate in this championship.
Netball tourney from tomorrow
Chandigarh: Chandigarh North District Netball Association will conduct Junior State Netball Championship of under-19 boys and girls for 5th Kailash Bahl Netball Trophy at KB DAV Senior Secondary School,Sector 7,Chandigarh,from May 11 to 12. The tournament is being under the aegis of Netball Association of Chandigarh.
Saupins Gold Cup from May 14
Chandigarh: The Saupin’s-32 Cricket Academy is organising an Inter-School (U-14) 4th Saupin’s Gold Cup 2012- 2013 Cricket Tournament from May 14 at Banyan Tree School-48. The matches will be of 25 overs and will be played among eight teams. Players born on or before 1999 can participate in the tournament.
