MOHALI: The Chandigarh Zonal Selection rounds for Gatorade Pacers- a nationwide talent hunt to help Indian cricket team find its next fast bowler- will be held on January 23 at YPS School,SAS Nagar,Sector 51,at 7 am. Participants can either register themselves on the spot or at http://www.gatorade.co.in. The panel of selectors includes Sukhwinder Tinku. After screening the participants,he will judge their potential,bowling skills and stamina. Gatorade Pacers was launched in Mumbai on December 15,2009 in the presence of former cricketer Manoj Prabhakar. Selections will take place in six cities through out the country in the presence of various pacers,coaches and respective State Cricket Associations. Winners of Under -15,Under-19 and Under- 22 from each zonal competition will be selected and provided with a structured training-cum-selection session by Prabhakar. The winners will go through structured training programs and their progress will be regularly monitored over a period of three years.

Golden Bells table soccer players shine

Travelling since the last week of December,Sohajveer Singh and Narinder Singh-students of Golden Bells Public School,Mohali- participated in two table soccer tournaments and attended an advanced training camp. In the first tournament,the Indo-Nepal International Table Soccer Tournament in Nepal held from December 29 to January 1,2010,they along with another class mate bagged a silver and two bronze medals. Then the duo attended an advanced training camp in Germany from January 3 to 7,following which they took part in the Table Soccer World Cup at nantes,France,from January 8 to 10. They finished fifth in the tournament in which as many as teams from 43 different countries were participating.

AS College,Khanna register win

AS College,Khana scored a comprehensive 3-0 win over Government College,Sector 46,Chandigarh in a knock-out match in the Panjab University Inter-College Football (Men) A-Division Tournament being played at Panjab University grounds on Wednesday. In another match of the ay,Sri Guru Gobind Singh College,Chandigarh scored a 4-0 win over DAV College,Chandigarh .

Karate meet on Jan 24

The Karate-do-Indo-Ryu Association International will conduct the Republic Cup Karate-Do-Championships for sub-juniors,juniors and seniors at Shivalik Convent School,Banur,on Ambala Road on January 24. Competitions will be held in ju-kumite and kata. Participants from Punjab,Himachal Pradesh,Haryana,Chandigarh and other adjoining states are expected to take part in the competitions.
