Jalandhar will take on Patiala in the finals for the coveted Punjab State Inter District Under-19 tournament for Dhruv Pandove Trophy at the PCA Cricket Stadium,Mohali,on July 29.

Jalandhar will take on Patiala in the finals for the coveted Punjab State Inter District Under-19 tournament for Dhruv Pandove Trophy at the PCA Cricket Stadium,Mohali,on July 29. The finals will be played over three days and the match commences from 7 in the morning. Patiala had defeated Amritsar on first innings basis in the semi-finals played at Amritsar while rain came in Chandigarh’s way as they went down to Jalandhar. According to Sushil Kumar,spokeperson,PCA,Anter Atma Singh and Baljit Singh Bawa will be the on-field umpires for the match,while Mohali’s Arun Sharma will be the Match Referee. The finals will be watched by the members of the Junior Selection Committee and the probables for the Under-19 camp will be picked up after the conclusion of the finals.

Singh to lead Chandigarh
Navjot Singh of DAV College will lead Chandigarh team for the 21st North Zone Junior Athletics Championship to be held at Dehradun from August 1 to August 2. Singh won the gold medal in triple jump in 2008 and will be spearheading the challenge this time also. Chess championship from August 1
The Chandigarh Chess Association will organise the Chandigarh Under-19 and Under-7 Boys and Girls Chess Championship on August 1 and 2 at St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School,Sector 44. A team of 2 in each category will be selected to represent Chandigarh at the Nationals to be held in Kerala in September and Ahmedabad in December,respectively. The last date for the submission of entries is July 31. Players should report for the first round at 9 am on August 1. Further quesries can me made form Sanjeev Biswas at 99144-37230.

Carrom meet from August 16
The 19th Chandigarh State Carrom Ranking Championship will be held at St Stephen’s School,Sector 45,from August 16 to 18. Entries in the seniors,juniors and sub-juniors categories (boys and girls) can be submitted to D S Aithani,assistant general secretary,CCA,at 564 A,Sector 32-A,Chandigarh. He can be contacted at 98729-22514. Players must be below the age of 18-years on 30-11-2009 for junior and below 14-year on 31-10-2009 for sub-junior categories. The entries close on August 10 at 5 pm.

Daily wagers complain of partiality
The daily wagers of Sector 42 Sports Complex has complained of partial treatment towards them by the employers. Their wages,which is hiked by Rs 300 every year,has not seen any increase in the current year. It was to be raised on January 1,2009,said one of the daily wager.
