The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the gangster Lawrence Bishnoi interview case has filed an untrace report in the district court. The case will now come up for hearing on Wednesday. The SIT filed the untrace report in the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Manpreet Kaur on October 9.

“Untrace report presented today. It be checked and registered. The order further read, “The investigation in the present case was conducted by SIT comprising Parmod Kumar and Nilambari Vijay Jagdela. The said SIT has recommended for filing of cancellation report qua all the offences except offence under Section 506 of IPC which is non- cognisable offence….”

On the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the SIT was constituted to probe the case. The court also ordered to immediately register two first information reports (FIRs) with regard to two interviews of Lawrence Bishnoi. The court also ordered the SIT probe the FIRs and file a status report within two months.

A division bench of Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal and Justice Kirti Singh had ordered that the “investigation of the FIRs shall be carried out by the Special Investigation Team headed by Prabodh Kumar, IPS, DG, Human Rights Commission. The other members of the SIT would include Dr S Rahul, IPS, and Nilambari Vijay Jagadale, DIG, Cyber Crime”.

On January 5, an FIR was registered at state crime branch in Mohali.

In August, eight months after the Punjab Police registered two FIRs regarding Lawrence Bishnoi’s interviews aired by a private news channel in March 2023, the SIT had submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the first interview was conducted on the night of September 3-4, 2022, on the CIA premises in Kharar in Mohali and the second interview took place when Bishnoi was in Rajasthan.
