In his complaint, Hardeep Singh said he was on duty at a check post at the Mata Rani chowk, near the municipal corporation office intersection in the city, when he signalled the car to stop as driver was using mobile phone while driving. However, instead of stopping, the metallic silver-coloured Honda Amaze car hit the policeman, as a result of which he landed on its bonnet. The occupants of the car then drove towards the Jalandhar bypass for about a kilometre with Hardeep Singh on the bonnet.
