Chandigarh :A fine display by Paavan and Pareen guided DAV Public School,Sector 8 to the title victory in in the U-16 Girls CBSE Cluster XIII Tournament played at St Soldier Senior Secondary School,Mohali. In the final,DAV-8 registered a narrow 3-2 win over Delhi Public School,Solan. In the first singles’ match,Pareen of DAV-8 managed a 11-8,11-6,11-7 win over Amita of DPS,Solan. Shriya restored parity for DPS in the second match when she registered a 12-10,4-11,11-4,11-7 victory over Shriya of DAV-8. In the third match,Anshuki of DAV-8 lost to Sargun of DPS,Solan 9-11,4-11,12-14. In the fourth encounter,Pareen of DAV-8 scored a 6-11,11-5,11-4,11-6 win over Shriya of DPS,Solan. In the last encounter,Paavan of DAV-8 recorded a 11-8,9-11,11-7,6-11,14-12 win over Amita of DPS,Solan.
Panchkula fencers honoured
Panchkula :Panchkula fencers including Harshdeep Kaur of St Vivekanand Millennium School,Pinjore,who took the silver medal and Priyanka Aggarwal,who wonthe bronze medal in the National Sub-Junior and Cadet National fencing Championship held at Gwalior,were honoured in a function organised by Panchkula District Fencing Association. Panchkula District also won the overall runners-up trophy in the Haryana Junior State Fencing Championsip held at Jind from September 8. Divya Karan Wangoo of Bhawan Vidyalaya won an individual gold medal in the sabre event and also bagged a bronze medal in the team event. Tanvi of Vivekanand School was also a part of the Sabre team. The Panchkula District Fencing Association will conduct a 10-day camp for the Panchkula team for the national championships.
Shooting Cship from Sept 22
Chandigarh :Chandigarh Rifle Association will conduct 13th Chandigarh Inter-School Shooting Championship on September 22 and 23 at St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School,Sector 44. The competition will be held in Air Rifle and Air Pistol event in the boys and girls categories in junior (below 19 years) and sub-junior (below 15 years). Only bonafide students of the Chandigarh schools are eligible to take part in the championship. The participants who obtain qualifying score will be eligible to represent Chandigarh in the XVI All Indian Kumar Surendra Singh Inter-School Shooting Championships to be held in Hyderabad from October 16. The entries will be accepted at the venue till 10.00 am on September 22 through the principals of the respective schools.
