Union Minister of Tourism,Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja visited the Nature Interpretation Centre and Garden of Silence at the regulator end of Sukhna Lake and the Valley of Animals in Sector 49 to review work on the ongoing tourism projects.
She promised assistance from her ministry for the projects. Selja also planted a sapling of Lagerstromea thorelli at the regular end of the lake.
Home-cum-Finance Secretary Ram Niwas said Chandigarh would be an important tourist destination with a lot on offer for the visitors in the near future.
With a financial support of Rs 23 crore from the Ministry of Tourism,various projects have been undertaken in the city to create infrastructure at prominent places. The emphasis has been on developing more gardens as new tourist attractions.
The concept of the Valley of Animals is to have different kind of ecosystems,such as safari desert,African safari,temperate region,Asian region. It will also have topiaries depicting animals in different ecosystems.
Sanjay Kothari,Additional Secretary,Minister of Tourism; Home Secretary Ram Niwas; MC Chief Engineer S S Bidda; Tourism Director Amandeep Kaur and other senior officials were present during the visits.
