Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Pawan Kumar Bansal inaugurated a pumping station for tertiary treated water in Sector 28-A. Built at a cost of Rs 1.75 crore,the pumping station will provide tertiary treated water to Sectors 1 to 12,26 and 28.
Mayor Raj Bala Malik and Municipal Commissioner Vivek Pratap Singh along with other officials and councillors were present.
In order to conserve the fresh water being used for irrigation purposes a project for the supply of tertiary treated water was conceived at a cost of Rs 36.72 crore in the year 2007 for funding under JNNURM. Under this,a 10 MGD tertiary treated plant was set up at Diggian. Pipelines were laid in different parts of the city to carry tertiary treated water to gardens,green belts,open spaces and houses with area above one kanal. The rates for the tertiary treated water supply will be Rs 50 per month per one kanal house.
