Sec 21 residents complain of encroachment by SCF owners

Illegal encroachments by shop-cum-flat (SCF) owners operating from back doors and carrying out repair works in front of Houses 2010- 2015 of Sector 21- C have become a major cause of worry for the residents, who are complaining of the nuisance created due to vehicles that line up in the lane for repairs regularly.

Although the operation of shops from their back doors is a clear violation of rules, some SCFs which hire mechanics in varying numbers continue to use the area. Along with the pollution caused by the regular repair work carried out by them, the residents are also complaining about the chaos of vehicles crowding in front of their houses.

“Most of the SCFs in front of our houses have hired 4- 5 mechanics who use the parking area for carrying out repair works. There is a rush of vehicles standing in this area leaving no space for the pedestrians to enter the market. The worst-affected are women and students who have to face awkward remarks made by the men crowding the space,” said one of the residents of the area.

“We had made a complaint to the Estate Office about the violation of the rules by these SCFs but the situation has not changed until now. The Administration had promised us that effective steps would be taken to ensure that no such activity takes place in front of our houses but the situation is only changing from bad to worse,” said another resident in the same lane of Sector 21- C.

When questioned about the complaints of the residents,Additional Commissioner,Municipal Corporation,Lalit Siwach, said, Whenever we receive a complaint from the residents about any issue,we try to address it to the best of our capacity. However,it is not possible for the authorities to keep a 24-hour vigil over people who continue to make such illegal encroachments despite repeated checks.”
