Gandhi Jayanti at St. Xaviers
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at St. Xaviers Senior Secondary School,Chandigarh with the introduction of the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi to the freedom struggle. Also,his teachings were elaborated upon. The Gandhian values were stressed and the need for value-based politics was explained to students.
Apart from this,the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri was also celebrated with echoes of Jai Jawaan,Jai Kisaan in the air.
Literary events at St. Xaviers
The English department of St. Xaviers Senior Secondary School,Chandigarh played host by organising Grandiloquence The Orator. 11 schools from the Tricity participated in the rhetoric where participants had to recite self- composed poetry,excerpts from Shakespeare and express their thoughts in Just a Minute.
The self-composed poetry was judged by Ms Roopkamal,Ms Rashmi,Ms Atultej Kaur,where Nividita Sharma of St. Xaviers was adjudged the best.
Mrinalini Singha of Strawberry Fields World School,Chandigarh came second,while Prabhnoor Kaur of Saupins School,Panchkula came third.
In Just A Minute,Susnato Sen Gupta of St. John High School,Chandigarh stood first,while Gureet Bala of St. Xaviers,Mohali stood second and Ashima Chaudhary of Saupins School,Panchkula came third.
In Shakespeare Oration,judged by Mr Rozaio. Ms Sarita Kanwar,Ms Anita Juneja ,Rizak Raj of St. Xaviers,Chandigarh bagged the top position,while Ashima Sharma of St. Xaviers,Panchkula and Ryan Rohan Rodrigues of St. John High School,Chandigarh followed him.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Abhishek Sethi of Saupins School,Chandigarh.
Laurels for Saupins
Students of Saupins School,Panchkula made the school proud with their confident performance in the Inter- School Oration Competition. Ashima Chaudhary of Class X won a trophy for the school by grabbing the third position in the Just a Minute event at St. Xaviers School,Chandigarh,the topic for which was Corruption in Politics.
In the Poetry Recitation even,Japnit of Class X clinched the third runner-up position.
Satluj Public School wins cricket tourney
The second match of the fourth Wing Commander S S Gyani Memorial tournament was played between the teams of Satluj Public School,Panchkula and The Holy Child School,Morni Hills,Panchkula. Holy Child School won the toss and elected to bat. They put up a total of 60 runs in 16 overs against which Satluj Public School scored 61 runs and won the match by 10 wickets. Sahil Vashisht of Satluj Public School was declared Man of the Match.
Bhavan Vidyalaya kids visit Traffic Park
Students of LKG and UKG visited Traffic Park in Sector 12,Panchkula to learn the importance of traffic rules in our life. Each sign board was explained and the importance of the traffic lights was explained to the students. The tiny tots were told not to blow horn in front of hospitals and libraries. Also,they learnt to cross the road through the zebra crossing. On the cross road,students played the game Whose turn is it? The students also made traffic light cut outs and carried these home.
Sharda Sarvhitkari school remembers Swami Vivekanada
In connection with the commemoration of Swami Vivekanands 150th birth anniversary,the school witnessed a plethora of activities. Seminars,quizzes,debates and talks on value education marked the long celebrations in the school. The motive behind these was to inculcate the messages of the great visionary and make students aware about his life and teachings. On his 150th birthday,i.e,January 12,a tableau was taken through various sectors depicting glimpses from his life. Over 200 students took part in the Shobha Yatra that began from the school at 2 pm and covered sectors 38,39 and 40 . Carrying his famous words on slogans and posters the students were enthusiastic in their approach. Principal,B S Kanwar said Swami ji was a lighthouse for the youth. He congratulated participants and expressed his thanks to the Vishva Hindu Parishad for their guidance during the procession.
Hindi Diwas at Sharda Sarvhitkari Model Sr Sec School
The Hindi Faculty organised activities and competitions during the week which culminated with a special programme on 14th September on Hindi Diwas Day. A poetry recitation was organised for students of pre-primary and Class I.
Students from Classes VI-VIII participated enthusiastically in a slogan-making and writing competition. Collages made by students of Classes IX and X were put up on the school notice boards and echoed the importance of Hindi language.
The judges,Mr Rajesh Shastri and Mrs Usha Gosain stressed on the knowledge of Hindi language,while the principal of the B S Kanwar gave away prizes and applauded the efforts of the Hindi Faculty. He said students must be fluent in atleast one language although knowledge of more languages is an asset. He further said that one must have pride in ones mother tongue.
Blood donation camp at Shishu Niketan
Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 22-D,Chandigarh,organised a blood donation camp in collaboration with Department of Transfusion Medicine of GMCH-32,on the occasion of the Shaheed Bhagat Singhs birth anniversary. Parents and teachers volunteered in large numbers for the event looked after by NSS students of the school. Mr. Pardeep Chhabra,councillor,Sector 22,Chandigarh was chief guest.
Trust and Harmony Day at DAVPS
Interfaith Trust and Harmony Day was observed at DAVPS-8C,Chandigarh,under the aegis of NGO Yuvsatta. At the event,children sang songs to highlight the importance of non-violence,love and compassion,while students of Classes IV and V took a pledge to work for promoting harmony,goodwill,love and peace in the world.
On the occasion,Kindergarten students remembered Mahatma Gandhi by colouring and painting posters of ‘Bapu’ and singing songs with great enthusiasm. Teachers explained to the students how to inculcate values of truth,non-violence and kindness in their daily life. Principal Ms Jaskiran Harika,appreciated the students efforts and encouraged them to adopt Gandhian virtues of non-violence and love for humanity as core practices in our daily lives.
Pinegrove student triumphs in Rajasthan
Sonali Anil Verma made her alma mater,Pinegrove School,Subathu proud by winning the first position in the Lady Anusuiya Singhania Memorial All India English Debate held at LK Singhania Education Center at Gotan in Rajasthan. 28 schools from all over the country participated in the event. She received a memento besides a cash prize of Rs 15,000.
Pinegrove,Modern register victory
The All-India IPSC Girls Cricket Tournament,2013,got under way after a gala opening ceremony with dance,music,band,and fire-works at Pinegrove School,Dharampur in HP.
In the inaugural match played between Pinegrove School and Mayo College Girls School,Ajmer,the hosts exhibited a classic all-round display of batting,fielding and bowling enabling them to outplay their opponents by 7 wickets.
In another interesting match,last years runner up,Modern School,Delhi overpowered Maharani Gaytari Devi School,Jaipur by 67 runs.
The Mayo girls won the toss and chose to bat first. They commenced on a cautious note but lost quick wickets at regular intervals. Only Ananya,who scored a painstaking 14 runs,could match the immaculate bowling and sharp fielding of the home team. In the stipulated 20 overs,Mayo could only register 74 runs on the board for the loss of 7 wickets. Muskan Gill was the most impressive bowler for the home team taking three wickets while Surreet Kaur chipped in with two wickets. Chasing the target,the Pinegrove team too suffered early losses. However,Sneha Yadav scored a remarkable 24 unbeaten runs and Muskan Gill contributed 19 runs not out. Muskan was awarded Player of the Match award for her performance.
In another match Modern School,Delhi defeated MGD,Jaipur,by 67 runs. The Modern School girls elected to bat after winning the toss and rode on an excellent 63 runs by Pratika to post a challenging total of 159 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
Anusha was the highest wicket taker for MGD girls taking three wickets. Chasing the target,MGD girls never looked in the hunt as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Only Aliya,who scored a gritty 30 runs displayed some determination. MGD girls could only muster 92 runs for the loss of 8 wickets thereby falling short of the total. Pratika who took two wickets for the winners was adjudged the Player of the match for her performance.
Ms Gunmeet Bindra,Principal Welham Boys School,Dehradun was chief guest on the occasion and complemented the school management for organising the tournament especially for girls and expressed hope it would give budding cricketers a chance to show their talent.
