Sanjauli mosque: As locals call protest today, MLA urges Sukhu to intervene
The call for protest has been issued even as a court is looking into the matter pertaining to the legality of additional construction on the mosque.

With a group of locals announcing a fresh protest on Wednesday against a mosque in Shimla’s Sanjauli area, the issue was once again raised in the Vidhan Sabha with Shimla (Urban) MLA Harish Janartha seeking Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s intervention.
The call for protest has been issued even as a court is looking into the matter pertaining to the legality of additional construction on the mosque. On September 5, the area had remained as hundreds of people, on a call from two Hindu outfits, gathered in the main market area, holding a procession, raising slogans and demanding that the mosque be demolished. They alleged that outsiders were being given shelter at the mosque. “There is another call of protest. I urge the CM to intervene in this direction,” said Janartha while raising the issue.
Janartha also urged for introduction of a strict vending zone and vendor policy to control the influx of people from other states. The House collectively agreed to formulate a policy aimed at regulating street vendors in Shimla and across the state. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, who had earlier demanded the demolition of the religious structure calling it “illegal”, said, “Some people are giving this issue a communal and political colour. Anti-social elements have been exacerbating the situation through social media platforms. I urge CM to implement a strict vending zone and vendor policy”.
Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said, “The House has taken cognizance of the issue. The state government must deal firmly with any untoward situation”.
CM Sukhu said, “Yesterday, Harish Janartha and Anirudh Singh met me regarding this issue. I have agreed to form a subcommittee of ministers or an inter-ministerial committee involving opposition members to formulate a vending zone and vendor policy. The matter of the religious structure in Sanjauli is sensitive. The government will not allow anyone to take the law into their hands”.
