Haryana’s Leader of Opposition and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday condemned the BJP-JJP coalition government saying that it was “unfortunate that there is not a single institution of Haryana in top-100 ranking of institutes in the recently released NIRF rankings”.

“The BJP-JJP coalition government has destroyed the entire education system of Haryana. Every educational institution, from schools to universities, is being targeted on by the government. Now results of these policies are coming to the fore. That is the reason that Haryana does not have any university or educational institution in the top 100 of the National Institutional Ranking Framework released by the Union Ministry of Education. Absence of even a single institute from Haryana in the NIRF top-100 ranking is extremely unfortunate and the state government is directly responsible for this. Since the formation of the BJP government in the state, the ranking of the universities of Haryana has been continuously falling,” Hooda said in a statement.

“It is happening because for the past several years the government has been tinkering with the already-established university system. Along with attacking the autonomy of universities, the government has now refused to give grants to them. This means now all the universities will have to bear their own expenses. It is obvious that with this step of the government, there will be a huge increase in the fees of all the universities and colleges. There will be huge reduction in support provided to students, from scholarship to other concessions to poor, backward and Dalit students, from hostel fees to admission. Education would be out of reach for farmers, poor, SCs and backward families,” Hooda said.

Hooda said, The government has already made its intentions clear through decisions like closure of 5,000 schools and increase in medical fees by 20 times”.
