Two days after a woman was killed when her scarf got entangled in a fodder-cutting machine, now an RTI reply has put a question mark on the functioning of Gau Grass Sewa Samiti’s cow hospital in Phase-1, Mohali.

Advocate Jasbir Singh, who has been fighting cases for ESI workers, said an RTI reply from GMADA has now confirmed that no permission was ever granted to the Samiti to run the hospital. “The official record clearly proves that GMADA has not issued any approval. The Samiti has been falsely projecting legitimacy,” he said. On August 18, Amandeep Kaur of Kharar had lost her life after her scarf got entangled in a fodder-cutting machine while she was feeding cattle at the facility.

He also pointed out that the sheds being used were makeshift structures from the Anandpur Sahib centenary celebrations, later shifted near the old DC office in Phase-1. After the District Administrative Complex shifted to Sector 76, the sheds were encroached upon by the Samiti.

Calling the establishment illegal, Singh said, “The cow hospital has even connected its waste to the Phase-1 sewer line, leading to blockages and serious inconvenience to residents.” He added that GMADA had written twice to the Deputy Commissioner recommending eviction, but no action followed.

Holding the organisers responsible for the fatal incident, he warned: “If the authorities fail to shift this illegal hospital immediately, I will be forced to move court against GMADA.”
