A Rohtak district court Monday released all five accused in the July 13 gangrape case of a 21-year-old Dalit college student, after a special investigation team (SIT) formed by the Rohtak police found no evidence against them. The decision came from Judicial Magistrate First Class Deepti while allowing an application moved by the SIT.
The Dalit girl had accused that she was raped by the five accused for the second time on July 13. She was allegedly raped by same men in 2013.

The five accused — Bhiwani residents Amit, Jagmohan and Sandeep, and Rohtak residents Pramod and Sandeep — were lodged in Rohtak jail since July. When contacted, SIT head DSP Pushpa Khatri said, “During investigation we did not find any evidence against any of the five accused in judicial custody. We had moved an application for their release, which the court allowed today.”
However, the DSP informed that investigation in the case is still in progress to find to who were the actual perpetrators of the crime. Petitioners’ counsel Harendra Bhalothiya informed: “After today’s court order, all the five persons have been released from jail. It is a big relief for the five innocent persons wrongfully framed by the girl and we would now seek compensation for harassment.”
The family members of the three Bhiwani accused had produced CCTV footage of their kin to prove that they were not in Rohtak on the day of crime. At the same time, family members of the alleged victim had said the accused, who belong to the upper caste, have been putting pressure on them to settle the gangrape case by accepting Rs 50 lakh and again indulged in the heinous crime to take revenge.
