Mann, who held a review meeting with DGP Gaurav Yadav, ADGP traffic AS Rai and Ludhiana police commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu, said: “The first of its kind specialized force will be entrusted with the task of checking rash driving and streamlining vehicular movement to check accidents.” He added that it will reduce the burden on cops deployed in police stations.
He said that in the first phase, 1300 cops will be recruited for this specialized force. Inspecting the vehicles to be launched for the force, he said that initially 144 vehicles will be launched of which 116 will be Isuzu vehicles which will be deployed every 30 kilometres and 28 will be SUVs that will be equipped with speed radars. Mann further said that the vehicles will also have medical kit for providing emergency treatment to any person in need.
Mann also checked designs of uniforms proposed for this ultra modern force and said that the uniform must have reflectors so that a person in need can spot these cops even from a distance. Mann expressed hope that this maiden initiative of the state government will be replicated in the other states of the country too.
Mann also visited the family of Punjabi singer Surinder Shinda who died recently and expressed his condolences. He said that Shinda touched one and all with his melodious voice and soulful creations and took Punjabi music industry to pinnacles of success.
