PANIC GRIPPED Shivalik City in Kharar when two groups fired gunshots in the air following a heated exchange on social media. Police rounded up one person while search was on for the others. The clash erupted between two groups, led by Billa Khoonimajra and Harpreet Baba of Chajjumajra after a member of Baba’s group sent some objectionable messages about the rival group members.
According to information, some people came to Shivalik City in four Hyundai I-20 cars armed with sticks and other weapons. Soon, a clash ensued with members of the rival group who were already present there, resulting in the windowpanes of one of the cars getting smashed.
Kharar DSP Deep Kamal said the clash took place after the exchange of messages between the two groups. Both groups had been involved in a rivalry for the last one year after a clash broke out between them on the Jhuggian Road in Kharar.
“We had prior information that some people could clash and so our teams were present and we stopped these people from doing much damage. We have rounded up a man and we are interrogating him,” said the DSP, adding that both groups started fighting on social media before deciding to meet near Shivalik City on Monday evening.
When asked whether it was the result of a gang war, the DSP said no. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC and Arms Act at Kharar (City) police station.
