He may be publicity-shy,but when it comes to launching a friend’s new album,A R Rahman makes sure he turns up,despite the media frenzy. The soft-spoken music composer was the special guest at the launch of singer Srinivas’s album,Timeless Classics,brought out by Saregama,at the Courtyard by Marriott in Mumbai last week. The album is a compilation of classic ghazals by Mehdi Hasan,rendered for a contemporary audience by Srinivas,who is known for his work in films like Sapney,Dil Chahta Hai and more recently,Robot. It was a love-fest on stage as everyone there from the singer to Saregama’s music head,Adarsh Gupta,gushed about the genius of Rahman. The Oscar-winner responded by recounting his first encounter with Srinivas and their collaboration in movies like Gentleman and Sapney.

Bummer: Rahman,in a rare public appearance,seemed in a good mood while sharing anecdotes about Srinivas’s music career. But as soon as the media whipped out their mics,he did a disappearing act
