Resentment brews against Patiala mayor

A number of Akali and BJP councillors have reportedly revolted against Patiala mayor Ajit Pal Singh Kohli.

A number of Akali and BJP councillors have reportedly revolted against Patiala mayor Ajit Pal Singh Kohli.

According to sources,as many as 26 councillors met at a local hotel on Friday and pledged at the Gurdwara Dukhniwaran to oust the mayor.

Three of the councillors — NRI Jaspal Singh, former mayor Sohan Lal Jalota and Amrinder Bajaj —along with a group of BJP councillors have launched an offensive against Kohli, following a spat he (Kohli) had with the BJP councillors.

Led by Senior Deputy Mayor Anil Bajaj, the disgruntled councillors met up with Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia on Thursday.

Mayor Ajit Pal Singh Kohli, meanwhile, said the Akali councillors should have taken up their grievances with the party president, instead of resorting to such actions that “lower the party’s image in the public eye”.

On the BJP councillors,Kohli said the BJP and SAD are alliance partners in the state and should, therefore, resolve any difference within the party framework, and not through the media.

Kohli was selected as the youngest mayor in Punjab by Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal himself.
