The latest Indian celebrity to join this year’s Cannes march is an unlikely candidateRani Mukerji. The actress alongside friends Karan Johar and Sabyasachi Mukherjee who is also styling the actresswill be walking the red carpet for Chivas on May 18.
Rani is delighted to walk the red carpet at Cannes for Chivas and she is being styled by Sabyasachi, said Rani’s spokesperson. Since Sabya is like family,she chose the Kolkata-based designer for the special occasion. Until 2006,Rani shared a warm association with Bollywood’s popular stylist Manish Malhotra who had given the actress her first makeover in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). It was when all her contemporaries,including Kajol,Preity Zinta and Kareena Kapoor,also started wearing Manish,she decided to break the monotony.
Ever since,the actress has been wearing a lot of Sabyasachi garments both in films and otherwise. The two have been thick ever since. The designer has had Rani walk the ramp as a showstopper on several occasions. Rani hasnt yet seen the outfit the designer has picked out for her but she is likely to dress Indian. Actor Saif Ali Khan,the brand ambassador of Chivas,is also walking the red carpet on the opening night,May 11,but in a Tom Ford jacket. Other Indian celebrities who will be spotted on the red carpet this year include Ronnie Screwvala,Sonam Kapoor,Minnisha Lamba,Mallika Sherawat and Freida Pinto,apart from the Cannes-regular Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan,who will announce her film Heroine with director Madhur Bhandarkar.
