Raj Bahadur likely to continue as GMCH-32 director-principal

The director principal of Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32,Dr Raj Bahadur,is expected to continue on the same post till his successor is selected by the Union Public Service Commission.

The director principal of Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32,Dr Raj Bahadur,is expected to continue on the same post till his successor is selected by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The deadline of Bahadur’s extension period of deputation was to end on May 31,and he was expected to rejoin his parent institute,Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER).

The UT administration had sent a communication to the UPSC in March to select the next director-principal. Earlier, the administration had forwarded the names of eight candidates.

UT administration officials revealed that the process of selection at the UPSC was likely to take at least two to three months. Till then,Bahadur is likely to continue. It has been reported that the UPSC is yet to begin with the process of selection of the next incumbent for the post of director-professor of city’s lone medical college.

PGI officials said the institute’s governing body during its meeting held last month decided that Bahadur could continue as the director principal of GMCH-32 till the director took charge.

Prior to this, the governing body had in its meeting, held last year, stated that no more extensions would be given to doctors on deputation and they would have to join as soon as their tenure ended.

Bahadur has been serving as director principal of GMCH for over four years. He had joined the institute on deputation from the PGI on December 1,2007. His deputation originally was for two years only.

Recently,PGI director Dr YK Chawla had written a letter to the UT administration to repatriate Bahadur and Dr Vipin Kaushal, who is also on deputation to GMCH 32 as the medical superintendent,as they had already served beyond their tenures.

PGI officials said if the institute administration decided to call the doctors on deputation back by May 31,then the UT administration would have no option, but to send the doctors.

“In such a case, the senior-most faculty member will be given the officiating charge of the director principal,” said a source in the UT administration.

Though the UT administration had initiated the selection procedure for Bahadur’s successor in December last year and had forwarded the name of the applicants to the UPSC,the UPSC is yet to complete the process.
