Following a tip-off,the Ferozepur district police raided Hotel Green and Hotel Deluxe Green. Five couples were allegedly found there whose “check-in entries” were not part of the hotel register. “We had received information that a prostitution racket was on at these hotels. Malkit Singh was found in a room with a girl — a resident of Jalalabad. Both have not made any entry in the register. We have information that Malkit Singh paid the girl to check-in to the hotel,” said Ferozepur police station SHO Dalbir Singh.

“We were not aware about the credentials of Malkit Singh,even after two hours of his arrest. In the evening,we found out that he was the Congress’ Jalalabad candidate,” said H S Mann,Ferozepur SSP.

A single FIR has been registered,booking the five couples and the hotel owners. One of the hotel owner’s was absconding.

“We are yet to receive a medical examination report of the two girls,who appear to be minor. Their parents have told us that they are minor. If the doctors declare them minors,the two persons,with whom they were found,will also be booked on charges of rape,” said the SHO. While the arrested girls are either school or

college dropouts,one of them is married.

“Based on the probe,we will ask the district administration to seal these hotels,” he added.
