Rahul Gandhi makes impromptu stop in Sonipat, Haryana home minister calls it breach of security protocol
Rahul Gandhi’s visit invoked sharp reactions from the BJP as well as the Jannayak Janata Party, while the Congress justified his visit by citing Rahul’s “nature” of “having direct communication with the public”.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Saturday made an impromptu stop at Madina village under Sonipat district in Haryana on his way to Himachal Pradesh from Delhi. During his hour-long stay in the village, he interacted with the villagers and also took a tour of the paddy fields.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit invoked sharp reactions from the BJP as well as the Jannayak Janata Party, while the Congress justified his visit by citing Rahul’s “nature” of “having direct communication with the public”.
Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij called it a “breach of security protocol”, while Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said, “Had he [Rahul] driven a tractor to the Parliament with me, he would have understood the farmers’ issues a long time ago.”
“We have no objection if Rahul Gandhi comes to Haryana. But, if he comes without informing, it is a big security issue. He did not inform the state police before his visit to Sonipat today and it could have been very dangerous without informing the state police. It has become his habit to visit Haryana without informing the security agencies, but it is against the security norms,” Vij said.
State Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, however, said, “Rahul Gandhi believes in direct communication with the public. He knows and understands the problems of farmers. That is why the Congress is continuously announcing policy decisions in the interest of farmers. When the party entrusted me with the responsibility of preparing the draft on the issue of farmers in the Raipur convention, many important decisions were taken. The Congress has set a target of taking farmers from loan waiver to debt relief and giving them the legal guarantee of MSP.”
