Even as the deadlock between private schools and UT Administration over implementation of the Right to Education Act 2009 continues, these schools seem to have got some relaxation as the Administration has allowed it to convert reserved seats into general category after January 20.
The move comes with the schools reiterating shortage in number of takers for 25 per cent seats reserved for underpriviledged children in their neighbourhood.
Taking into account last years situation, when most of the private schools had arbitrarily converted the RTE seats into general claiming shortage in number of takers,UT Administration has now set a common last date for candidates applying under RTE category.
The schools have long been stating that despite advertising about the admissions, they have not been able to find ample number of eligible candidates for reserved category, DPI (Schools) Sandeep Hans told Newsline.
Since we had suggested the schools have a common date for displaying list of selected candidates,we have also asked them to wait for the RTE applicants till January 20. To facilitate them,we are also going to upload the child mapping survey data on our department website, Hans said.
Due to some minute errors in the data compilation,we had to withhold the uploading. But we hope to provide the entire information to the schools online by the end of this week, Hans said, explaining the delay in uploading the survey data.
The child mapping survey aims at identifying the candidates eligible for free and compulsory education as per the provisions of RTE Act.
The survey was conducted in December last year, when about 1,000 UT government teachers had visited different households in the city to find out the eligible children.
Last year,29 of the total 73 private schools in Chandigarh had failed to fill the 25 per cent reserved seats in full capacity, claiming to have not received enough applications under the category.
