Janhavi Malhotra
Suffering from medical ailments,she has not been able to attend school properly since she was in Class VII,and the family wasnt even sure whether she would give her exams. We got her books 20 days prior to her examinations. As she could not read,her mother read out the books to her and she would prepare for the subjects, says her father Anil Malhotra,a general manager at Taj Hotel. Janhavi had stunned her family earlier when she cleared Class X with 88 per cent exams. However,even they were not prepared for the results that came today. The student of Vivek High School,Sector 38,had got 92 per cent in Humanities.
Janhavi has penned her emotions in a book,Aloft on Wings of Grit,which she considers a journey in love,heartbreak,solitude and determination. It has been written over a period of more than a year,with entries of everytime something really moves her.

Even as other classmates went from one tuition class to anther,Surya Narayan knew he couldnt expect the same: his father earns just Rs 6,000 a month as a helper in a school in Mohali. Today,his father couldnt hide his joy as Pradeep,a student of Government Model Senior Secondary School,secured 91 per cent in Commerce. In my entire family,nobody has studied beyond Class XII,even my elder son has done Class XII and taken up a job. If he wants to study,I will support him every way, says the father,thanking Pradeeps school and teachers for extending him every help.
Pradeep wants to be a Chartered Accountant. But before that I want to complete my graduation in Commerce and support my further education on my own.
Raskirat Kaur
A student of DAV Model School,Sector 15,Raskirat is a national-level Recurve archery champion and has spent the past four years participating in national-level tournaments around the country. The 85 per cent marks in Arts came as a bonus,she says.
Though Raskirat plans to graduate in psychology,she is keen on pursuing archery further. I practise daily for four hours; two in the evening and two in the morning.
The daughter of a Colonel in the Army posted in Assam,Raskirat developed interest in archery as a hobby at school. The celebrations,in fact,have been continuing a while: recently,her team stood third in the senior national-level championship.
