Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested a Sub Fire Officer Rana Narinder Singh posted at Malerkotla for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 12,500 from a resident of Sherpur village in Sangrur district.
An official spokesperson for the VB said that the sub fire officer has been arrested on a complaint of Lovely Singh, a resident of Sherpur village.
The spokesperson informed that Lovely Singh had approached the VB police station, Patiala Range, and lodged a complaint in this regard stating that the accused officer had already taken a bribe of Rs 1,70,000 in lieu of providing him a job in the Fire department. Now, he has demanded Rs 12,500 to get the police verification of the complainant done.
The spokesperson informed that after the preliminary investigation of the complaint, a team of VB, Patiala Range, laid a trap and caught the accused sub fire officer red-handed accepting the bribe of Rs 12,500 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused sub fire officer at VB police station, Patiala Range, in this regard. Further investigations are under progress.
