The Punjab Police have cancelled leaves for all officers and personnel with immediate effect. This decision comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’, a military strike targeting terror sites in Pakistan’s Punjab and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

Sources said the move was undertaken by the state police following a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah with chief ministers and police heads of 10 states in New Delhi on Wednesday. The police personnel already on leave are also being recalled, and no leave will be sanctioned for the next few days at least, said a source.

“Additional checkpoints have been set up in border districts to keep a check on all activities on the second line of defence,” said a senior officer, adding that civil defence preparedness has been enhanced.

The move is likely to be a precautionary measure to ensure full operational readiness, given the escalating situation, including blackouts and civil defence drills being carried out all over the state.

Similar actions, such as recalling personnel, have been taken by paramilitary forces as well, reflecting a broader state of alertness.

The police have appealed to the public not to fall prey to rumours on social media and should reach out to the police control room for verification if they have any issues over any suspicious activity.
