Police in Punjab’s Moga district on Friday arrested kabaddi player Kulwinder Singh Kinda for allegedly attacking his own mother, over 24 hours after he went live on Facebook claiming that his rivals had barged in and attacked his mother with sharp weapons in Badhni Kalan.

Police said the claim had appeared fishy from the beginning as Kinda, instead of taking his injured mother to hospital, took to Facebook and started blaming his rivals. In the video, Rachhpal Kaur was heard crying in pain with severe injuries on her chest and head. She was later rushed to the Dayanand Medical College & Hospital in Ludhiana.

DSP (Nihal Singh Wala) Manjit Singh said that during the investigation, it was found that no one except Kinda himself had entered the house. “He suspected her of having an extramarital affair. He snatched a cutter from a nearby meat shop and attacked his mother, injuring her in the chest and head. Later he went live on Facebook and started blaming three kabaddi players who were his rivals, to mislead police and due to his personal enmity with them,” the DSP said.

An FIR under Indian Penal Code sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 458 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night) was registered at the Badhni Kalan police station.
