A Punjab Home Guard jawan was arrested for allegedly supplying intoxicant tablets and other banned products in Ludhiana Central Jail premises.
The jail inspection team has recovered 18 intoxicant tablets and capsules, and some tobacco products from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Sukhpreet Singh of village Kamma in Khanna and was deployed here at Central Jail Ludhiana.
The Division number 7 police have registered an FIR on the basis of the statement of Assistant Superintendent at Central Jail Surinderpal Singh.
He stated that a special checking was carried out on the basis of the tip and the accused was arrested after recovery of contraband from his possession.
SI Sukhwinder Singh, investigating officer, Division number 7 police station said that the accused has been arrested and a case under sections 22, 61, 85 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and 42, 45 of Prison Act has been registered against the accused. He said that the police have initiated further investigation into the matter.
