As a part of ninth Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th martyrdom anniversary commemoration, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, Monday, launched a mandatory education module in all the schools, including government, private and aided affiliated to all education boards, from nursery to class 12 to instill values of “righteousness, truth and justice” in students.

Bains visited two schools, including Government High School, Dasgran, and Mount Carmel School, Jindwari, in Rupnagar district, sharing the ninth Guru’s teachings, life and sacrifice with students. He urged all the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and other senior officials to follow the suit to motivate students and reinforce the importance of his legacy.

Bains said that the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) developed the education module, vetted by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The module includes a 10-12 minute morning assembly segment on the ninth Guru’s life, martyrdom, Mata Gujri’s life and the creation of Khalsa Panth, besides organising special lectures, poetry recitations, speech competitions, essay writing and distribution of historical books.

The initiative goes beyond history lessons, focusing on character building and instilling strong human values in the youth, Bains said. “The Guru’s sacrifice is a beacon of humanity and interfaith solidarity, transcending communities, and it’s crucial for the new generation to understand and inherit the legacy of valour and sacrifice,” the minister added.
