PSEB exam results declared: Girls outshine boys in Class 12 results, clinch 1st 3 spots

Sujan Kaur of Dashmesh Convent Senior Secondary School, Sardulgarh, in Mansa district topped the state in Class 12 examination. She secured 500 marks of total 500. Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) on Wednesday declared the result. The students can check the results at the board’s official website http://www.pseb.gov.in from Thursday 8 am onwards.

Navpreet Kaur of BCM Sr. Secondary School, Jamalpur, Ludhiana is third in the state by securing 99.4 percent marks (497/500). All the toppers are from the Humanities group. The board did not declare the group wise toppers. Declaring the results, PSEB’s Vice Chairman Varinder Bhatia said that this year the pass percentage was 92.47 per cent which is 3.52 per cent lower than the previous year. Girls outshine the boys by bagging three top positions. The pass percentage of the girl students was 95.14 per cent while that of boys was 90.25 per cent. Vice Chairman Varinder Bhatia said 2,96,709 students appeared for the examination and 2,74,378 passed. As many as 3637 students were failed.

“The failed students are around 1.22 percent, it is low percentage, as many as 18,569 students have compartments,” the Vice Chairman added. On performance of schools, the Vice Chairman said that Government Schools has a pass percent of 91.86 while that of Non-government schools is 94.77 percent. Open Schools has a pass percentage is 77.05 per cent.
Speaking on subject wise performance of the students, the Vice Chairman said that Commerce has a pass percentage of 98.30 while Humanities recorded a pass percentage of 90.62 per cent, Science has 98.68 percent and Vocational has 84.66 per cent. According to the Vice Chairman, Gurdaspur district has the highest 96.91 per cent pass percent in the state while Barnala has the lowest 80.47 per cent Urban areas recorded a pass percent of 92.90 percent while the rural areas, the pass percentage was 92.17 per cent.

“Our staff worked hard to declare the result in shortest possible time,” the Vice Chairman added.

When asked about the copying in the examination, the Vice Chairman said that their staff worked tirelessly to stop copying and only seven cases of Unfair Means Cases (UMC) reported in the examination. On the issue of leaking of English exam, the PSEB, Controller Examination, Janak Raj Mehrok said that the staff where the English paper was leaked shall bear the financial losses.

Meanwhile, Navneet Singh, a student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Patiala topped in the state in Science stream by securing 496 marks (99.2 percent), Simranjeet Kaur topped in the Commerce stream by securing Shaheed Sipahi Sandeep Singh Government Senior Secondary School, Pars Ram Nagar, Bathinda by securing 98.8 per cent marks.
