(Express) Jaspreet Kaur of Mansa bagged the first position in the state, by securing cent per cent marks in the Class 5 board examinations, the result of which were declared on Thursday by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).
The PSEB this time declared the Class 5 exam results 10 days after having conducted the exam. Officials said that students can check their results on the official website of PSEB from Friday onward. Also, no significant gap was recorded in the pass percentage this year when compared to the previous year. The overall pass percentage this year was 99.69, slightly higher than last year’s 99.62 per cent.
As per details, Navdeep Kaur and Gurnoor Singh Dhaliwal bagged the second and third positions in the state, with both the students scoring 100 per cent marks. The board classifies ranks of students on the basis of age. Hence, the youngest among Jaspreet, Navdeep and Gurnoor was declared as the state topper..
Both Jaspreet Kaur and Navdeep Kaur are students of Government Primary School, Ralla Kothe village in Mansa district while Gurnoor Singh Dhaliwal is a student of Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Convent School, Bhana in Faridkot.
On Thursday, Dinesh Kumar, a teacher at Government Primary School, Ralla Kothe, told The Indian Express that despite all odds, Jaspreet had worked hard to become a topper. He added that Jaspreet was good in the sports too.
“She has two more sisters. Her father is a construction worker and is currently bedridden after having suffered a serious injury to his spine after an accident on a construction site,” Kumar said.
The vice Chairman (VC) of PSEB, Varinder Kumar Bhatia, while declaring the results on Thursday congratulated the board staff for bringing out the results in quick time.
Bhatia further said that a total of 2,93,847 students appeared in the examinations, out of which 2,92,947 passed it.
The vice chairman said that the students who failed had the option of re-appearing in the supplementary examination which will be held within two months. A seperate form needs to be filled for appearing in the supplementary exam, the dates for which will soon be declared by the board.
“The students can, in the meanwhile, take admission in the sixth class. Those who pass the supplementary examination shall be declared as promoted, with the rest having to repeat Class five,” the vice chairman said. Bhatia added that the pass percentage of boys was 99.65, while that of the girls was 99.74. A total of ten transgender students appeared in the exam and all of them passed.
Speaking further, he said that the pass percentage of the government schools stood at 99.69 percent while the affiliated schools is 99.79.
The pass percentage of regular students is 99.69, while that of associated schools is 99.75 percent and that of aided schools is 99.07 percent.
