Prof Renu Vig was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University (File) Prof Renu Vig was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University on Wednesday. She is the first woman Vice-Chancellor of PU.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, who is also Chancellor of PU, issued the order to this effect. At least 140 applications for the post of V-C were received. Later, a three-member search-cum-selection committee recommended three names. Prof Vig’s name was selected out of the three.
Prof Vig had been discharging the responsibilities of officiating V-C since January 16 along with discharging the duty of Dean University Instruction (DUI).
The former 13th V-C, Raj Kumar, had resigned citing personal reasons amidst the allegations of corruption on January 10. Chancellor Dhankar had accepted his resignation on January 13.
Later, PU had invited applications for the V-C’s post and received at least 140 applications. Among applicants, 20 applicants were from PU. They included professors Rajeev Kumar Puri, Navdeep Goyal, Rajat Sandhir, Devinder Singh,
Sukhbir Kaur, Sanjay Kaushik, D K Dhawan and S K Sharma.
Consequently, the Vice-President constituted a three-member search-cum-selection committee on March 21 for recommending names for the post of V-C.
