Prof Monga gets additional charge of PU chief security officer

All proposals mooted,at the beginning of this year,to step up security at Panjab University (PU) security come to a standstill,as the chief security post, which is contractual, has been lying vacant for the past three months.

All proposals mooted,at the beginning of this year,to step up security at Panjab University (PU) security come to a standstill,as the chief security post, which is contractual, has been lying vacant for the past three months. However,a few days back, university authorities gave an additional charge of the post to Prof Anil Monga of the Police Administration department.

In a keen jerk reaction to an incident when a 23-year-old girl was gangraped in Delhi,PU had decided to beef up security on campus.

It was proposed to install 40 more closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras and recruit 80 security personnel to the posts, which were laying vacant for years.

A total of 359 security personnel were working on campus against the sanctioned strength of 439. At present, over 60 CCTV cameras are installed on campus. It was also proposed to buy one more security vehicle that would be used to patrol the main and Sector-25 campus.

Talking to Chandigarh Newsline,Prof Monga said,“I got the charge of the chief security office, five days back. I am aware of all the proposals that are in the pipeline and many things are in the process”.

P K Dhawan served the university as the chief security officer for four years. In February,Dhawan had resigned from the post. Univeristy sources said that the post was on contractual basis and the university used to renew the contract of Dhawan, every three months. Later, after many C class employees of the university raised objections,Dhawan voluntarily left the position.
