A couple who married against the wishes of their parents has landed in trouble. Less than a year after the police had registered a kidnapping case against a Morni resident,Naresh Kumar, for kidnapping a minor girl, the police investigations have revealed that the accused not only kidnapped the girl, but also gave a wrong statement to the Punjab and Haryana High Court about the age of the girl before seeking police protection after alleging that they were facing threat from the the girls parents. The case came up for hearing on Tuesday before the District and Sessions Judge,Ravi Kumar Sondhi, and the father of the girl testified before the court that she was kidnapped while returning home from the school,in October last year. The case has now been listed for hearing on September 27.
District Attorney Amit Parmar said that Naresh had moved the application with the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking police protection. He said that when the police went through the records, they found that the man was involved in a kidnapping case which was registered against him in October 2012. The man had stated before the High Court that the age of the girl was May 24,1994,while as her date of birth was May 15,1995, he said, adding that he submitted before the court on Tuesday that the marriage of the accused with the girl was not legal as she was only 17-and-a-half years old when she was allegedly kidnapped.
The police have filed a detailed report in the case,in which it is stated that the school records have confirmed that the girl was a minor when she was kidnapped by Naresh, who then worked as a labourer in Morni. The records confirmed that the girl was minor and the accused couldnt produce any supporting evidence against this in the court today, Parmar said.
