“He was intoxicated and got into a heated argument with his wife over an old issue. In a fit of rage, he climbed the tower and threatened to end his life. Thankfully, after sustained efforts, we managed to convince him to come down, although he unfortunately slipped and got injured,” said the in-charge of the Sector 16 police chowki.
A drama unfolded near Labour Chowk in Sector 16 on Thursday morning after a young man, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, climbed a mobile phone tower following a violent altercation with his wife.
According to police officials, the man threatened to take his own life after the domestic dispute escalated.
Bystanders in the area quickly alerted the police as a crowd began to gather at the site. Responding promptly, both police personnel and the man’s family members engaged in a prolonged effort to take him down safely from the tower.
After nearly seven minutes of coaxing, the man finally agreed to descend. However, just as he neared the bottom, he lost his balance and fell, suffering a serious head injury.
The police team immediately rushed him to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, where he is currently receiving medical care. Doctors, however, have confirmed that he is in stable condition.
