As the bypoll approaches, the residents of Dasuya will now be able to cope with the scorching summer heat better than the rest of the state. While the entire state has been reeling under long power cuts in both urban (8 hours at least) and rural areas (12 hours),Dasuya Assembly constituency is the only exception with no such power woes.
Earlier we were just getting power for 10 to 12 hours in a day,but for the past four days, there has hardly been any power cut, thanks to the bypolls, said a Dasuya resident. He added that they will now be able to deal with the weather better as by the time the polls are over, monsoons would have hit the state.
Till four days back, there were the worst power cuts not only during the day but at night as well. We are now not facing any cuts and power has not gone off since the morning, said another resident of Dasuya on Tuesday. Even people in the rural areas of the constituency share the same views. The bypolls are scheduled for July 11.
Sources at the Powercom in Jalandhar said the power cuts are controlled from the power bodys head office in Patiala. A senior officer in the transmission wing in Patiala,on the condition of anonymity, said the power body was effecting less power cuts in Dasuya due to directions from higher authorities. He said the situation will remain the same in Dasuya till July 11. Another officer added that only brief cuts are imposed on the poll-bound constituency during maintenance or repair work.
