Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar not based on Major Mohit Sharma’s life, says director Aditya Dhar: ‘If we do make one in the future…’
Filmmaker Aditya Dhar has denied that Dhurandhar is based on Major Mohit Sharma’s life, adding that if he ever decides to make a film on the late officer, it would only be done with the full consent and consultation of the family.
Aditya Dhar has clarified that Dhurandhar is not based on the life of Major Mohit Sharma.
It has been over a week since the release of the Dhurandhar trailer, and the film continues to trend across social media. Amidst the buzz, several reports and rumours emerged claiming that the film is supposedly based on the life of Major Mohit Sharma, who went undercover as Iftikhar Bhatt to infiltrate Hizbul Mujahideen in the early 2000s, with Ranveer Singh portraying him on screen. These reports only heightened excitement among fans. However, filmmaker Aditya Dhar has now officially denied these claims.
Today, Madhur Sharma, the brother of Major Mohit Sharma, took to X to tag Aditya Dhar, requesting confirmation on whether Ranveer Singh’s character in the film is based on his late brother. Responding to the query, Aditya Dhar dispelled the rumours, stating: “Hi, sir – our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of brave heart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification. I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us.”

For those unaware, Major Mohit Sharma passed away in 2009 and was posthumously honoured with the Ashok Chakra. Previously, in a conversation on Lt Cdr Bijay Nair’s YouTube channel, Madhur Sharma recounted his brother’s time undercover as Iftikhar. He recalled the day of a pivotal operation, saying: “He had made kahwa for them (the terrorists) that morning. And he insisted that they take him along. They said that since he was quite new, they didn’t trust him enough. After listening to this, Mohit, as I am told, handed them one of their own AK-47 weapons and said that if you don’t trust me after two weeks, shoot me. He said I have given you all the plans of the army, and if you don’t trust me even now, then shoot and get it over with.”
Madhur explained that Mohit’s bold move gained the terrorists’ confidence. “That’s when he picked up the pistol from the table and he made two shots, that’s what I have been told. He made two shots and point-blank, killed both these guys and then he sat there and he finished the kahwa,” Madhur said. “After Mohit had his kahwa, he called his company and announced, ‘Boss aa jao, kaam ho gaya hai.’”
Dhurandhar is slated to release on December 5 and features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, alongside Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in supporting roles.
