Third police officer dies while on duty at Punjab-Haryana border amid farmers’ protest

Yet another police officer, stationed at the Tohana border in Haryana’s Fatehabad district in wake of ongoing farmers’ agitation, fell ill and died on Tuesday late evening, the police informed on Wednesday.
The officer, identified as Exempee Sub-Inspector (ESI) Vijay Kumar, was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival. A spokesperson said he was on duty when he fell ill and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Haryana DGP S S Kapur said, “It is extremely sad and unfortunate for us. Haryana Police stands with ESI Vijay Kumar’s family in this moment of grief.”
The spokesperson added, “Posted in Nuh, Vijay Kumar was deputed at Tohana border a few days ago. He was known for acting as a motivational force for his colleagues. His last rites were performed at his native village in Rohtak.”
On February 16, Government Railway Police Sub-Inspector Hiralal, stationed at the Shambhu Border between Punjab and Haryana, died of “poor health”. Meanwhile, ESI Kaushal Kumar, who was also deputed at the Shambhu border, died on Tuesday after he fell ill.
