Treatment at the most sought after referral hospital in the region,PGIMER,has become dearer with rates of most tests and medical procedures hiked recently. At the same time,there is some relief for parents of newborn babies and HIV patients,as some charges have been waived off for the two.
These changes have been introduced after a gap of over three years. The PGIMER governing body had approved the proposed rates,which were first approved by the standing finance committee in November 2010. The new rates will affect patients opting for private wards more than those who opt for general ward/OPD.
Rates have been revised for around medical tests related to the departments of nuclear medicine,endocrinology,pulmonary medicine,paediatrics,hematology among others. While in departments like nuclear medicine and immunopathology,rates have been doubled,others like departments of cardiology and gamma knife procedure have slashed their charges.
PGI has also done away with diet charges for newborns upto six months of age and baseline investigation charges for patients living with HIV/AIDS for in-house and outdoor investigations.

Despite the fact that PGIMER has revised the rates with immediate effect about a month-and-a-half ago,its official website www. pgimer.nic.in continues to show the old rates. The rates have been recently revised. The list on the website will be updated soon, said PGIMER Public Relations Officer Manju Wadwalkar.
