A bunch of students from Dikshant International School have expressed themselves through art on a topic close to their hearts: peace. The two-day exhibition titled PEACE has 35 paintings and three sculptures on display. Through our artwork,we want to promote the idea of peace in our own lives,in our family,in the community, country and the world, said one of the young arists. Art is an integral part of our school curriculum and we believe that unless we teach them peace, someone will teach these children violence, says acclaimed sculptor Bibekanand Kapri, who teaches art at the school.
Tanya,a Class VII student, has used oil pastels to create a collage called Lost in Wilderness, depicting how the world we live in is not peaceful. Amrinder has used colours, paper and fabrics in his collage Beauty and the Beast,to drive home the point that life is precious and we can see it from different perspectives, he says.
The white dove, the symbol of peace, finds its way in most of these amateur works, like in Aneeshs White Wings, where he has used the opaque technique to depict his idea of peace. Upasana has used poster colours to create flora and fauna, which she says,co-exist in complete peace, and how man must learn from nature. Many students used the victory sign as a symbol of peace signifying victory over violence. The exhibition is an effort to unleash the creative energy of these students and to highlight the importance of living in peace, explained Mitul Dikshit, the schools director.
