To see the functioning of various offices in the Patiala district administration,Deputy Commissioner Deepinder Singh today carried out a surprise check and found 12 officers and 104 employees absent from duty. The DC has issued show-cause notices to the erring officials. Singh along with other officials swooped on various offices around 9:05 am after locking the gates of entry to the Mini Secretariat and confiscated all attendance registers.
Among those found absent from duty in their offices included district programme officer Harjit Kaur Aneja,District Transport Officer Anil Garg,Tehsildar Elections Namdev Singh Sidhu,District Food and Supplies Controller Sona Thind,Naib Tehsildar Agrarian Gurpratap Singh Walia,District Development and Panchayat Officer Daljit Singh Virk,Naib Tehsildar G S Walia,District Revenue Officer Jatinder Singh,DIC NIC Sanjiv Kumar,Joint Registrar Cooperative Mohammad Javed and Additional District Transport Officers Rajinder Kumar Sobti and Karanbir Singh Chhina.
The DC also found 104 other employees absent from their duty and lamented that while the public was waiting for them to come,the officials and staff did not come up to their responsibility and made the public to suffer.
The DC has also directed SDMs of various sub-divisions to ensure that the attendance in government offices in smaller towns was properly maintained and public was not made to suffer.
He warned of more such surprise raids in various government offices to bring in transparency and discipline in the functioning of government offices.
