With an urn containing Parkash Singh Badal’s ashes, Sukhbir Badal leaves for Kiratpur Sahib

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal Wednesday morning left for Kiratpur Sahib along with his family members to immerse the ashes of his father Parkash Singh Badal. The family members left in two buses from Badal village around 7.30 am.

The SAD president, holding the urn of ashes on his head, walked out of his house Wednesday morning amid chants of Satnam Waheguru. He was accompanied by Sikh priests and his family members. The ashes were immersed Wednesday afternoon in the Sutlej river in Kiratpur Sahib.

On Tuesday, SAD spokesperson Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema had in a video message said that the Badal family will not be at Badal village on Wednesday. It was an information for all those who were coming in large numbers to condole the death of senior Badal.

Cheema in his message had also stated that all Akali Dal leaders who have been deputed for the Jalandhar bypoll should continue performing their duties in the parliamentary constituency and not come to Badal village. The bypoll is slated to be held on May 10.

Five time chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had died on April 25 at Fortis hospital after a brief illness. He was 95. He was cremated on April 27 at Badal village.

Meanwhile, the ‘bhog (last prayer)’ of the SAD patron will be held on May 4 at Mata Jaswant Kaur memorial school in Badal village and apprehending a big gathering and inflow of VVIPs, the district administration has issued a route plan.

Deputy commissioner Muktsar Vineet Kumar said, “People coming from Bathinda side can park their vehicles in the 60 acre vacant fields outside Badal village and can enter the main pandal through the langar pandal while people coming from Lambi, Kheowali and Mehna roads can come via the rear end of Mata Jaswant Kaur memorial school, sports stadium and finally reach Mithari road parking lot.”

He added, “In addition to this, people coming from Singhewala road can also reach Mithari road parking lot and from there, they can first enter the langar pandal and then the main pandal where the ‘bhog’ will be organised.”

Kumar said the district administration authorities are working in coordination with the police authorities to manage the inflow of masses from different roads.
