As compared to Chandigarh and Mohali,the turnout in Panchkula was lower at 51 per cent. There were 1,687 voters from Majri,Budhnapur and Panchkula in the elections and one polling booth at Government Senior Secondary School,Sector 7. Panchkula falls under the Ambala constituency.
By 3:15 pm ,805 votes had been polled. The voting continued till 4 pm and 51 per cent voters cast their vote, said presiding officer Surinder Singh.
In the list,about 600 votes were attributed to one house in Sector 7 of Panchkula. Protests were witnessed and the it was alleged that all these were fake votes.
DSP (City) Iqbal Kaur reached the spot and informed the protestors that it was a clerical mistake and voters names were genuine. The voting resumed at the centre.
Initial results indicate that SAD (B) candidates Gurdeep Singh and Suraj Singh were leading in the constituency. While Gurdeep Singh was contesting on the general seat,Suraj Singh was contesting in the SC category.
