Panchkula residents are reeling under a severe water shortage, with some sectors facing 8-10 hour water cuts regularly during the day.
Not only have the residents of Sector 15,Panchkula,reported erratic water supply, but supply has been short also in some other sectors and those living in upper floors of the colonies are hardly getting water due to lower pressure. Other sectors like 4 and 7 to 18 are also facing water crises.
Not only are people facing frequent water cuts, but even the pressure of the supply is low, said the president of Citizens Welfare Association (CWA),S K Nayar. The water supply is for too little time, and with very low water pressure, and people living on the upper floors are facing difficulty in getting the water. Some of the residents living on the first and second floors of their houses are facing harassment.
A situation like this is unprecedented and has never been seen before in the township for the last over 30 years, Nayar added. He said that the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) had promised to supply water from Kaushalya Dam and Bhakra canal from Chandigarh but had done nothing except make tall claims.
The water crisis this year is quite serious and alarming and government of Haryana and HUDA should think over the matter, he added.
The other members of the Action Committee of the CWA have taken serious note of the water crisis being faced by the residents of Panchkula, especially those of the thickly populated sectors, like 4,11 and 15,and have urged upon the authorities to take immediate remedial measures, keeping in view the necessity of residents of Panchkula affected at large at the cost of HUDA Administration.
