Police investigations revealed that the girl, originally from Uttar Pradesh and living with her parents in a Pinjore slum, had been subjected to repeated sexual assaultThe Panchkula police has booked four juveniles and a 20-year-old man for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl, who later gave birth to a baby last month.
Two other juveniles allegedly involved in the crime are absconding.
The incident came to light on July 29 when doctors at the Civil Hospital informed the police that a minor had given birth to a child.
Police investigations revealed that the girl, originally from Uttar Pradesh and living with her parents in a Pinjore slum, had been subjected to repeated sexual assault.
The police said that the 20-year-old accused, a neighbour of the victim, took advantage of the situation when the girl’s parents were away at work. Despite the victim’s pregnancy, her family never approached the police.
The case has been registered under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. After being discharged from hospital on August 6, the minor received counselling and support from the authorities.
On August 22, a police team, led by ASI Sunita, arrested the main accused. In a parallel operation, Sub-Inspector Sukhbir apprehended two juveniles, including the girl’s maternal uncle, who have since been sent to a juvenile home.
The police also initiated DNA testing to establish the child’s paternity. Efforts are on to trace the two absconding juveniles.
