Painter’s murder: Court convicts accused, sentencing today

Giving details of the case, public prosecutor Bharpur Singh stated that according to the records, the Balongi police had received a call from Civil Hospital, Manimajra, on February 7, 2023, informing them that Rajveer had died of injuries suffered during a violent assault.

Rajveer’s brother Vijay said in his complaint that he, Rajveer and Ajay were working as painters at TDI, Sector 117, and were staying in house no. 1418. On the night of February 5, 2023, after dinner and consuming alcohol, an argument broke out over drug use. In a fit of rage, Ajay allegedly struck Rajveer on the head with an iron rod. Rajveer managed to call Vijay, saying he was leaving for home, but he never arrived.

The next morning, Vijay found him lying unconscious in a pool of blood and rushed him to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Ajay was arrested soon thereafter. During interrogation, he said that he had hidden the iron rod in the storeroom, which the police later recovered with bloodstains.

Bharpur Singh said the court found strong evidence, including the post-mortem report, recovery of the weapon, and witness statements and, therefore, held Ajay guilty of murder.
