Moga police arrested three persons on Sunday after a video of a clash that ensued in the heart of the city went viral on social media. The clash took place just a few metres from Moga city-1 police station.

The spot is also very close to the city’s bus stand. Even though the clash happened in full public view, none from police or public tried to intervene. It was only after the video went viral that police swung into action.

In the video, two groups are purportedly seen assaulting each other. Three men, including one with a stick, are seen continuously hitting another man who is lying on the ground. Even as he pleads for mercy, one of the accused with a stick continues to hit him on his feet, while another pulls his hair. Then another man whose turban is tossed during the fight, is seen clashing with another group of men. A visibly scared woman is seen trying to save him, but she soon backs off as more men entered the scene. Some accused then again pull hair of the man who had his turban tossed and continue to assault him by kicking him and hitting him with sticks. They even try to strangle him with a piece of cloth around his neck.

He said that an FIR under Sections 307, 323, 427, 148, 149 and 341 of IPC was registered against them at Moga city-1 police station. Sources said that it was a case of inter-village and personal rivalry.

Meanwhile, targeting the AAP government over the deteriorating law and order situation, Congress MLA Sandeep Jakhar tweeted: “Law and order Mann sab… this video is from the heart of Moga city..”

BJP leader Fatehjung Singh Bajwa tweeted: “Disturbing scenes unfolding in Moga as hooliganism continues unchecked mere 300 meters from police station. The lack of fear for law and order is deeply concerning..”
