One dead,12 injured in building collapse

Shesh Nath,30,who was from Uttar Pradesh,died in the accident.

“We were putting the roof for the fourth floor. It was about 8:30 pm when the building suddenly collapsed,” said 24-year-old Ramesh,who is from Jharkhand. Ramesh sustained injuries on his face and legs.

“There were about 30-35 workers on the site. But the power went off. So some went to have water and some were fixing the electricity line. At the time of collapse there were only 12-13 workers on the top of building,” Mangal,35,who escaped unhurt,said.

“I fell unconscious. There were three women more with me at the time of accident,” said Usha Kumari,20,who is recuperating at ESI Hospital. The other two women were Munni Devi and Aarti.

Police said there were 13 labourers in the building. Three of the injured were referred to Chandigarh and Baddi hospitals and four were admitted to ESI hospitals. “All four are out of danger and will be discharged soon,” Dr Yamini of ESI Hospital said.

“We have registered a case under Section 336 ( for endangering life or personal safety of others),337 ( for causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304-A ( for causing death by negligence) of IPC against contractor Naveen Tomar,supervisor Parmod Kumar and owner of site Dinesh Sahni,” said Inspector Kanwar Singh Guleria.

Solan SP Hridesh Bisht said Tomar and Sahni were arrested,but later released on bail.
